Vengeance
on VJ Day- by Charles Thompson
A
colleague of mine sailed aboard HMS Vengeance when she was sent out to
join the war in the Far East. However, she arrived off Sydney harbour,
Australia, as shown in the 24” x 30” oil on canvas painting,
on ‘VJ’ day the 15th of August 1945 and thereby missed the
war. Her air compliment at that time consisted of Vought Corsairs (seen
in flight) and Fairey Barracudas (shown on deck).
