A Lockheed Liberator GRV of
No.200 Squadron RAF Coastal Command piloted by New Zealander Flying Officer
Lloyd Allan Trigg and his crew of eight, based at Yundum on the west coast
of Africa is shown sinking the German U-boat U-468 on 11th August 1943.
The Liberator however was severely damaged and crashed close to the U-boat
killing all the crew, which allowed the few survivors of the U-boat to
use its rubber dinghy. They were picked up by a Royal Navy destroyer and
on their recommendation; Lloyd Trigg was awarded a posthumous Victoria
Cross, “For Valour”. 18” X 24” oil on canvas.
