Head On At Midway - by John Greaves On the morning of June 4, 1942, U.S. Marines flying Brewster F2A-3 Buffalos and F4F Wildcats met an incoming Japanese air attack on Midway Atoll. 2nd LT William Brooks, flying a Buffalo with malfunctioning landing gear only partially retracted, managed to survive the ensuing dogfighting when so many others in his squadron, VMF-221, were lost. |
