ART EXHIBITION NEWS
5 June 2010
ART SHOW - CAAA CONFERENCE 2010
This message is in follow-up to the announcement in AerialViews May
2010 calling for submissions to the major exhibition to be mounted
in conjunction with the conference to be held at the National Air
Force Museum of Canada (NAFMC) September 9th to 11th.
Forward:
As this event
promises to have a very important influence on the future course of
many CAAA programmes, its significance cannot be overemphasized. Just
as a close working relationship with the Canada Aviation Museum in
Ottawa provided a springboard for launching many major CAAA exhibits,
and provided a special continuing public focus on our organization,
so the steady growth of NAFMC -- the site of our first national conference
-- has now also placed it in a strong position to provide additional
and continuing support to our mission.
Since our
first conference there in 1997, NAFMC has undergone impressive and
continuing expansion in many directions: both in the variety and number
of its collections of aircraft, and (greatly) in physical size as
well . Also, future plans include further expansion of many display
areas, including provisions for a growing permanent art collection
and an associated dedicated display gallery. It is in connection with
the last item above, that NAFMC is now hoping to develop a co-operative
program with aviation artists through the evolution of a continuing
series of art shows and displays.
Consequently, the importance of this conference to CAAA cannot be
overstated. Accordingly, all members are strongly urged to participate
either through attendance at the opening (which will occur on the
first day of the conference) and/or by providing works for display.
If our conference thus serves to demonstrate our enthusiasm and willingness
to contribute to the future growth of NAFMC, it cannot help but assist
our own stated aims.
If you plan to submit work for the show, please note :
1. This
is NOT a juried show:
The organizers will reject for display only works that are considered
intemperate or socially offensive. Generous tolerance will be observed
in assessing factors such as artistic merit, style and technical ability,
but works that are by purpose crude or offensive will not be accepted
for display. If in doubt, send an image ASAP to the contact person
listed below, who will then consult with other organizers and without
hesitation, inform the presenter of the work(s’) acceptability.
Size is another
restraint : the largest dimension must not exceed one metre. Similarly,
works must be delivered in an undamaged state and suitably framed
or presented. While considerable display space is available, if an
overflow of submitted works should result the organizers reserve the
right to withhold from display works judged to be of an overall lesser
quality or interest, excessive divergence from the theme, or of doubtful
taste.
2. Duration of show:
While no
firm dates for the duration of the show can be provided at this time,
it will remain on display for a period of at least several months.
Exhibitors will be notified well in advance of the return of their
work. The NAFMC cannot act as a sales agent for exhibitors; however,
unless otherwise instructed, the names and contact information for
each of the exhibitors will be made available to museum visitors.
If a sale does result from a work’s exposure at NAFMC, to maintain
the balance and integrity of the show, it will not be released to
the purchaser until after the exhibition closes. While the NAFMC will
not exact a commission on any sales of exhibit pieces, it would be
good public relations for any such fortunate artist to make an appropriate
tax deductible donation to the museum.
3. Theme:
The theme
of the show is: RCAF Training - Trenton’s Heritage. This was
born of the fact that 2010 is the 70th anniversary of the beginning
of training under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP)
and that Trenton was a keystone to this operation. However, it is
recognized that advance notice for this exhibit was extremely short,
so members may as an alternative choose to submit works available
in their inventory that do not match this particular theme, subject
to the proviso that aircraft and/or subjects portrayed are, or were,
those of the Canadian Forces, the RCAF or its predecessors( regardless
of their employment).
4.
If you are entering the show:
Inform contact person Don Connolly ASAP of your intent. Phone:
613-376-9906.
E-mail: doncon@kingston.net; or write: Don
Connolly, PO Box 205, Sydenham, ON K0H 2T0
5. Deadline:
Receipt
of information regarding title, size, medium, date of completion,
support and description of the subject (all required for producing
suitable catalogues and labels) at NAFMC is 20 July. Accordingly,
this information must reach Don no later than 15 July.
No exceptions!
Delivery:
6.Entrants
must arrange delivery of their works to NAFMC at their own expense
to arrive no later than 23 August. It is suggested
that they first contact their regional co-ordinators to see if any
group delivery may be in the plans. At the closing of the show arrangements
for return of the works will be made by NAFMC.

17TH HORIZONS OF FLIGHT COMPETITION
CALL FOR ENTRIES
EXHIBITION AT CAE SIMUFLITE CENTER
DALLAS/FORT WORTH AIRPORT, TEXAS
JANUARY 31 – APRIL 29, 2011
CAE SimuFlite invites you to be a part of our 17th Horizons of Flight
Aviation Art Exhibition and Competition.
The exhibition provides excellent exposure for artists. In addition
to the general public, the show is seen each week by approximately
400 aviators who train at CAE SimuFlite. The exhibition generates
purchase inquiries that are forwarded to the artist.
You are invited to participate by submitting a CD with a digital scan,
or by email, of as many as three works for initial jury. Work must
have been completed after January 1, 2004. Non-returnable CDs must
be sent with an entry form (enclosed). Make sure your name and a brief
title of the work appear with each entry. There is no entry fee.
The exhibition will be held January 31 through April 29, 2011 at CAE
SimuFlite. The original work must be available for the duration of
the exhibition. Additional rules and information can be found on the
enclosed call for entries form.
Winners will be chosen by an accredited judge. Cash awards include
Best of Show and the CAE SimuFlite award, which is given to the work
that best depicts business aviation. Awards of merit will also be
presented.
We look forward to receiving your entries to this year’s competition.
