Dorothy Wetherald Rungeling - by Martha Southwell

Dorothy's portrait was featured in the 99 News in 2013. A member in the Order of Canada and awarded the Amelia Earhart Medallion, Dorothy's accomplishments have broken barriers for women in aviation. The first Canadian woman to solo a Bell G2 helicopter in 1958, she also flew many transcontinental and international air races during the 1950's. Dorothy was one of three women in Canada to obtain a Senior Commercial Licence in 1954 and a Multi Engine Rating in 1955. In 1958 she obtained her Class 1 Instrument Rating and was the only Canadian woman to hold an Airline Transport Licence. Her dream of having women flying in the captain seat for top airlines has come true.

16 X 20 Inches, Oil on Canvas, Collection, Dorothy W. Rungeling
